St. Thomas Cruise Ship Schedule
St. Thomas is one of the Caribbean’s premier cruise destinations, typically welcoming ships daily. Most vessels operate on 7-night Eastern or Southern Caribbean itineraries, departing from Florida ports or San Juan. The cruising season runs year-round, with peak activity between December and April.
St Thomas Cruise Ship Docks
Cruise ships coming to St. Thomas generally arrive at one of two major port facilities on the southern side of the island near Charlotte Amalie:
Havensight (West Indian Company Dock / WICO):
- This is the most common dock. It can accommodate up to three large cruise ships at once and features a large, walkable duty-free shopping and dining village right at the pier.
- Crown Bay (Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal): Managed by the VI Port Authority, this pier typically handles mega-ships (such as Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels), as well as ships from Carnival, Celebrity, and Norwegian.
- Charlotte Amalie Harbor: On exceptionally busy days, ships will occasionally drop anchor in the harbor and tender passengers ashore via small boats.
What to Expect on Your Day in Port
Getting Around
Taxis and covered, open-air "safari" trucks are incredibly plentiful at both piers. A standard taxi ride from the docks to downtown Charlotte Amalie is approximately $3–$5 per person.
Shopping
St. Thomas is famous for duty-free and tax-free shopping, particularly for jewelry, watches, liquor, and perfumes. The Havensight complex and downtown Charlotte Amalie are packed with storefronts.
Excursions
The most popular activities include snorkeling/sailing trips, visiting Magens Bay Beach, ascending the Skyride to Paradise Point for panoramic island views, or taking the passenger ferry across to St. John.
Latest Schedule
Because daily port traffic fluctuates (especially during the summer and fall off-seasons), it's highly recommended to check the specific daily schedule before heading out. You can find up-to-date arrival times and see which ships are coming to the island using the Virgin Islands Port Authority or the U.S. Virgin Islands Cruise Ship Schedule.
